Chiropractic & Osteopathy

The third largest branch of healthcare in the western world after medicine and dentistry.

During the initial examination our first concern is to check for signs of any serious conditions for which you may need to go to your GP or to hospital. Problems of the musculoskeletal system can be caused by accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness and everyday wear and tear. These problems may cause pressure on or dysfunction of the nerves in the body. These conditions will include, but are not limited to; low back pain, sciatica, disc problems, neck pain, headaches, migraine, arm and leg pain.

Manipulation

This involves precisely handling or moving joints in the spine or the limbs. This aims to normalise their movement and make your body better able to cope with your normal daily activities. Depending on your condition, the chiropractor may manipulate parts of your spine or other joints and give you advice on exercise, self-help, diet and lifestyle.

Progressive Management

If structures have been damaged, the first concern will be to allow them to heal as completely and correctly as possible.  After that, their function in conjunction with the surrounding areas and to enable good movement of the whole body become the priority and thereafter, it is often strengthening and the ability to perform specific tasks and/or sports that become emphasised.

Treatment is very much a partnership between you and your chiropractor.

Please ask us as many questions as you need to be sure that you understand what we have told you about your condition and any exercises or advice for you to follow at home.

After your first examination and diagnosis we will review your progress regularly and discuss any further investigations or refer you to your GP if your condition does not improve. However, different conditions require very different types and number of treatments so there is no standard protocol of treatment applicable to everyone.

At Southcote we take pride in individualising the care of our patients. Your needs will be unique and we will adapt our approach and techniques to reflect this in your care.

In the clinic our practitioners treat people from infants to the elderly, from all walks of life and from weekend warriors to top-athletes. Each chiropractor has one or more areas of special interest and we often consult each other to gain the best results for our patients.
