Osteopath

Thursdays 8am - 1pm, every other week

Emily graduated with a Master’s degree in Osteopathy from the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in Maidstone and is registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

Before training as an osteopath, Emily spent twenty years working as a nurse. Her extensive healthcare experience gives her a broad understanding of health, illness and recovery, which she now combines with a holistic and patient-centred approach to osteopathic care.

Emily enjoys working with people of all ages and believes that understanding why something may be happening is an important part of getting better. She takes time to explore the wider picture, helping patients to “connect the dots” between their symptoms, movement, lifestyle, previous injuries, surgery and other changes in the body. Where appropriate, she combines hands-on treatment with rehabilitation, movement and practical self-management advice to help patients feel more confident in their recovery.

Her treatment style is hands-on, adaptable and guided by each patient’s individual needs and preferences. She uses a broad range of osteopathic techniques, from joint mobilisation and manipulation and soft tissue work to gentler functional, fascial and cranial approaches, always aiming to use the least amount of force necessary.

Emily has a particular interest in women’s health and supporting the body through periods of significant change, including pregnancy, the postnatal period and recovery following surgery. She is fascinated by the body’s capacity to adapt and remodel and enjoys helping patients regain comfort, movement and confidence as they recover.

As a mother, former nurse and lactation peer supporter, Emily also brings a valuable perspective to working with new mothers and babies. She has a special interest in perinatal and paediatric osteopathy, as well as adolescent health, headaches, respiratory health, persistent pain and post-surgical rehabilitation.

Emily has a keen interest in pain science and patient education and has presented her academic work on pain neuroscience education at a national conference. Her nursing background means she is also comfortable working as part of a wider healthcare team and values Southcote’s multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with other practitioners when this may benefit a patient’s care.

Outside the clinic, Emily is a busy mum who enjoys keeping active through yoga, running, skiing and swimming, as well as reading and gardening.
