Mind Matters at Southcote

Poor health can affect our mental state and our mental state can effect our health. We often overlook this fact and focus on treating our symptoms, not always taking time to consider the underlying causes.

We all feel down from time to time, we all feel stressed and overwhelmed by life's challenges. However, we do not always feel our 'needs' warrant a trip to a doctor. Yet prevention is better than cure and dealing with our 'issues' before they impact too severely on our everyday life means that we may be able to avoid more serious ill health in the future.

The team at Southcote Proactive Healthcare are very aware of the need for a balance between mind and the body and would like to introduce you to their Mind Matters team.

Mens Self Help

In addition, Southcote are happy to introduce Wayne Brazier, founder of the Kent and East Sussex based self help group for men. Wayne set up this group having himself experienced mental illness as a result of poor physical health. The group aims to provide support in an environment where men can talk about their current struggles and get first hand experience from a fellow sufferer whom, with the right direction, is on a positive road to recovery. Drawing on Wayne's personal experience of successful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) treatment, the group benefits from education of changing behavior, and expectations of those elements which are outside of our control, focusing on what is important and the well being of group members as an individual.

The group meets regularly at The Cygnet Hospital, Godden Green, Sevenoaks, Kent TN15 0JR and there are no charges to join or attend. Plans to hold such meetings at Southcote in the near future are currently in progress. Wayne can be contacted on wayne@menmatter.org.uk and you can visit the website at www.menmatter.org.uk
